Author Talk With Karen Wilkes
December 15 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Author Karen Wilkes is coming to the Shoshone Museum on Friday, December 15th, to talk about her newest book ‘Trampin’ In Pard?’, a study of the lives of four hard rock miners in Nevada, past and present.
One of the four featured is Tecopa resident Paul Barnes, part owner of the Tecopa Bistro and the Tecopa Campground concession, who has prospected and mined in Nevada and California for decades.
Nevada Newspaper Hall of Fame inductee John L. Smith called Wilkes’ book a “gemstone. ..One part family history, one part memoir, with a lot of thorough research and reporting poured in, ‘Trampin’ In Pard?’ is a fascinating study.”
The four stories include Wilkes’ grandfather Roscoe Wilkes, who settled the family in Pioche, where Wikles grew up. She also writes about Jack Brown, who was killed in a mining accident when she was a child, about a current day gold miner named Jordan Hale, and about Paul Barnes’ legal struggles as an independent miner against the Bureau of Land Management and large mining corporations over potassium claims at Silver Peak, Nevada.
The event begins at 6PM. It is FREE to the public (donations to the museum are greatly appreciated).
Wilkes will have copies of ‘Trampin’ In Pard?’ available for sale and signing at the event.
